Scott Brown: He's Too Sexy for Massachusetts

Republican Senator Scott Brown knows how to drive a truck and he knows how to wear a suit but does the man know how to lead Massachusetts in a down economy?

Does he have big ideas? No. Does he accept most of his campaign contributions from the insurance lobby and financial sector? Yes. Does he have to lie about Elizabeth Warren's "radical history" teaching economics at Harvard? Absolutely - if he wants a chance at winning reelection in November.

The Republican Committee of Massachusetts created an ad on their website which served as the inspiration for my Scott Brown attack ad. It makes the nerdy and overall matronly Warren look like a lunatic via use of editing techniques (grainy, shaky video - all it's missing is painted red eyes on Warren's horned head).

As you will see, my video makes light of a serious issue (incompetent & corrupt gov't officials in undeserving positions of power) whereas the Mass. GOP is making issue out of Warren's undeniably stellar record. When the GOP takes down their ad, I'll take down mine.

2 Minute Review: Rocksmith

Modern Art at the Met

You wouldn't think so at first, even when standing with your face inches away from the large image of this strange man. As it turns out, this is an oil painting. Their was a real live model but isn't this great?

Tibetan Buddhist Monks Increase Suicide Burnings

In 2011 16 Buddhist monks in Tibet killed themselves to protest Chinese occupation of one of the most peaceful people's on the face if the earth.

Increasingly Tibetans are committing suicide by dousing themselves and drinking gasoline and igniting themselves with a match. This a is a symbolic mutilation of the self - a cry for help - a call America is not answering.

Human rights will continue to be nonexistent in the region until someone fights for the defenseless Tibetans. America has to fix itself domestically before we can defend the innocents of the world.

American Torture

81 year old Giles Corey was caught in a land dispute with a Puritanical magistrate. When he refused to enter a plea to the court, he was punished by crushing by stones. His famous last words: "more weight" is a perfect symbol reminding us that torture does not work.

By torturing our enemies, we have become equal to them in character. In so doing we have destroyed the very ideals we are at war fighting to protect. If America is to be an honorable leader in the world, righteous lawyers are needed to uphold the Constitution and the rule of law. As as an attorney, I want to end America’s practice of enforced disappearance, abusive interrogations and indefinite detention without trial.

The Geneva Conventions and the U.S. Convention on Torture explicitly prohibit inhumane and degrading treatment for prisoners of war. The law is clear but somehow American lawyers were able to conspire a legal way to employ torture and provide cover for those who allowed it. I have no direct connection to torture other than being a human being who respects the life and dignity of others. I deeply believe in my heart and mind that torture serves no useful purpose. It has only emboldened the enemy and inflamed the U.S. war in the Middle East.

Terrorizing the terrorist does not destroy his cause, it creates a cycle.

The Promiscuous Grand Ol' Party

The current crop of Republican presidential candidates has left much to be desired on all sides of the political spectrum. President Obama's approval ratings are at record lows and the economy is not rebounding from the 2008 collapse. It's possible that a strong and smart conservative candidate could have a fighting chance at attaining the White House.

The 2012 presidential debates are doomed to be boor-fests much like the race to the finish line for the keys to 1600 Penn. Avenue unless either Chris Christie or even a somewhat plausible 3rd party candidate enters the race.

Mitt Romney will probably be the 2012 Republican nominee unless NJ Gov. Chris Christy decides to run. Texas Gov. Rick Perry's leased campground, nicknamed N-word-ville back in Texas has effectively ended his run. Old Man Time Ron Paul, bat shit crazy Michele Bachmann, authoritative to the point of absurdity Santorum and cheezy pizza candidate Herm Cain have absolutely no chance of winning the golden ticket. Gingrich and Huntsman look like wildcards right now.

Sexism or Stupidity: If We're Talking About the U.S. House - Probably Both

When Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz took to the podium on the House floor this Tuesday, she should have tried to get Rep. Allen West to stick around so she could’ve addressed her remarks to him directly because it seems clear that West doesn’t like it when people talk about him behind his back.

She excoriated the GOP rep in her floor remarks which probably got little attention from anyone other than West himself. In return, West took the high road, when he emailed the congressional leadership and cc’d Wasserman Schultz.

After West accuses Wasserman Schultz of not being a lady, he goes on to say, "Look, Debbie, I understand that after I departed the House floor you directed your floor speech comments directly towards me. Let me make myself perfectly clear, you want a personal fight, I am happy to oblige. [Here's where it gets good.] You are the most vile, unprofessional and despicable member of the US House of Representatives. If you have something to say to me, stop being a coward and say it to my face, otherwise, shut the heck up."

The subject heading of West's email: "Unprofessional and Inappropriate Sophomoric Behavior from Wasserman Schultz."

What happened to turning the other cheek West? This fight reminds me of two kids arguing over a toy and one saying to the other - "You're fat." What happened to proportional responses?

Strangely enough, Wasserman Schultz went on CNN’s Wolf Blitzer where she announced that West actually lives in her district. She said that she was doing her duty on behalf of her constituents (of which West is apparently included) to lambast her Republican colleague, saying he wants to slash benefit programs for seniors. Now the question is - why the hell is West living in a district that he doesn’t represent as a U.S. Congressman?

Learn(ing) to Type the Right Way!

Epiphany. Keyboard typing is less like a tool one uses to get the job done. On the contrary - it is more like a musical instrument.

Milbank v. Beck: the 2010 Pundit-Dick-Measuring Contest

Washington Post op-ed columnist Dana Milbank is turning anti-Glenn Beck sentiment into an industry, but the question remains - will the industry be profitable?.

Milbank has increasingly been focusing in on Beck's antics over the past few months, especially after Beck's September 2010 rally on the National Mall where the Fox news pundit turned Washington on it's head when he surprised everyone with an overall calm and peaceful gathering of patriotic Americans.

Anybody who watches Beck's show on a daily basis would presumably be disappointed with the rally compared to his show. Beck's show is more fun, ie. much more chalkboard use. I'm not saying that the rally was disappointing itself, it simply had a lot less politically charged muster.

Well anyways, Dana Milbank is pissed. He thinks Beck is an idiot and wants to stop at nothing before burying him on page 2 (where Milbank's column appears twice a week). Including riding Beck's coattails all the way to the bank.

Milbank (left) and Beck (right) are more similar than they are different. Here's why:
  • both use humor to make political points about public affairs and news of the day
  • both are paid for by news publications to spin the news
  • both can go way overboard (and often do) to their detriment
  • both think they can do no wrong and are godsends to their base
  • both use multiple mediums to spread their message
One thing is incontravertable, both Beck and Milbank are extremely popular among their respective bases. Beck probably has more followers and definitely more know his name compared to Milbank. More people watch TV than read the Washington Post.

We'll probably be seeing more of Dana Milbank in years to come. He's kind of a diamond in the rough - much like Glenn Beck on HLN. These guys have to be marketed in the right way in order to maximize their profitability. Milbank himself has appeared in upwards of 20 video versions of his "Washington Sketch".

Milbank along with associate Chris Cilliza of The Fix, they got into trouble when the two referred indirectly to Hillary Clinton being a "bitch" in an shortly-lived but very funny ---. Cilliza recently joined MSNBC as a political contributor, and it's probable that Milbank will follow suit.

Too bad we'll never see these two gents share any time on the small screen. Beck never sits down with anyone who dissagrees with him and Milbank is way too happy riduculing Beck in the shadows of the Post's opinion pages. Plus, so many beltway critics rail on Beck, it's possible that Beck has no idea who Dana Milbank is.

2010: Year of What the Fuck

Back in the good old 90's, 2010 was thought of - at least by me - as having a futuristic landscape filled with super clean city streets and bussulling shiny metros, dare I mention flying cars.

Clearly - it didn't happen.

Fun Games That Aren't A Waste of Time

Geosense.net is a great map game. You can test your geography skills on a world, U.S. or European map. Create a user name to record your score or visit anonymously. You can play solo or battle others.

I took a screenshot of each of the offered maps. How the game works: you have one minute to correctly locate the city (whose name is located in the top middle box beside the timeclock and the country's flag), the point is to be as accurate as possible and you are scored on how close you are to your target.

Alex Jones: Radical or Revolutionary?

Nationally syndicated radio talk show host, documentary filmmaker, & activist Alex Jones is loud, angry, and delivers a cohesive and clear message. Jones show has a certain emotion similar to Glenn Beck & Rush Limbaugh who take an "I'm angry at 'the man'" kind of stance. The difference between Jones and the others is that he is a straight-up conspiracy theorist.

When Loose Change hit the net, Alex Jones documentaries became very powerful.

The mainstream media seldom if ever let Jones onto their airwaves.

Timeline of "The Journey of Man"

Where did the first humans live? If you think Africa you're probably right. But where did they go after that?

Found this really fun interactive timeline of the "Journey of Mankind." It's a really well done and simple way at looking how humans spanned throughout the globe.

Back to Blogging

In the last year a lot has changed. This is my first post since before the 2008 election. I need to get back to writing. Although I work at C-SPAN (they have social networking guidelines), I need to air my thoughts and this is a healthy thing. If i didn't allow this blog to be accessed by anyone, it wouldn't feel as relieving compared to writing in a completely private journal. This is a public record of my thoughts.

Years from now, if anyone decides to read this one day, I want my ideas and thoughts on the record - if for no one else, it'll be good for me because I forget everything.

The Mission

Can you name an unbiased journalist? Hard question huh? Truth is there's no such thing. In today's media everyone's got an opinion. All the pundits, commentators, experts, analysts, and yes, journalists all have something in common - they all have an agenda. This personal agenda can be beneficial for the common man or detrimental. I think that bias has become so prevalent in today's "news" to the point that you can't get any solid educational information (in cable TV news- which is the most popular medium for media now).

From this point on, this blog will look at the news and the news-tellers from the standpoint of a man seeking freedom for all those who have none. I have no personal agenda other than to tell the stories of the day as they are as I see them.

Let Sarah Be Sarah

Since the beginning of time Republicans and Democrats seem to butt heads on pressing issues of the day. But there's one thing that everyone in Washington can agree on - even the media pundits. Let Sarah be Sarah.

One week after the election, 2008 Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin is now center stage in the partisan battle against her Democratic rivals. Republicans believe she is the new voice of the "conservative" party. Democrats like having her around because - let's face it - she's a complete dumb-ass.

Let's get some things straight. I like Sarah Palin - she's good looking, she's entertaining, and she seems to be a loving mother. However, these are not all-encompassing traits one would like to see in a leader. Dumb-ass may be a bit strong of a term but let's look at the FACTS:

She didn't know what the Bush Doctrine is. This is the weakest in my argument for the dumb-ass allegation because I honestly didn't know what Charlie Gibson meant either but shouldn't a Vice Presidential nominee?

Katie Couric Interview
  • Palin can't name another Supreme Court decision besides Roe v. Wade
  • She can't name one periodical - not one
A Couple Positives About Sarah Palin

Palin is a good public speaker. Her statements definitely lack substance but like any other politician - what can the American people expect?

Palin is a self-made woman. She doesn't come from much and it's noteworthy that she wasn't born with a silver spoon like so many other leaders - and there's something respectable in that.

The Question of a Socialist America

The notion that Barack Obama is a socialist is a true one - he's at least quasi-socialist. John McCain is part socialist also. McCain is a self-subscribed maverick which means no one can tell which way his decision-making mind is going. They both voted for the bailout package.

Both agree the bailout had to pass because of the possible repercussions of doing nothing.

However, the notion from FOX News and the GOP that the democrats are completely screwing us [ideally as Sarah Palin puts it - the Trifecta] Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and Barney Frank is a farce. Both parties have deeply rooted problems with ethics and money handling issues. This facade of Democrats versus Republicans is getting tired - and it's also just beginning. When the Democrats win in a landslide this November - FOX is going to get louder - and probably steal back some listeners.

Politics is a dirty dirty game. Politics on the presidential scale are run like billion dollar Fortune 500 corporations. Dirty money flows at an oceanic scale throughout Washington. Democrats and Republicans alike accept dirty money and personal favors.

Socialism is when the governments run our life. Fascism is where the corporations run the government and therefore our lives. Democratic capitalism is a mixture - a balancing act between the two. A regulation or checks and balances on the fight between corporations and governing bodies.

The truth is that Socialism has been around for nearly one hundred years. Our government is made up of completely un-American entities like the Federal Reserve, Social Security, and Medicare/Medicaid and possibly the IRS.

Politics & Big Business Make Powerful Bedfellows

If you wanted to run against big corporations in an election of any kind it would be very difficult to win. Look at Dennis Kucinich and Ralph Nader. It's as if they're getting tossed about like rag dolls in the Octagon. It's shameful how Obama gets his money - but could he even come close to having a chance without all the big money backing?

From Russia with War

OK. It's been a while since my last post. The Democratic Convention is over and Barack Obama is finally the OFFICIAL democratic nominee for the President of the USA. We are in the midst of a situation in southern Russia which could lead to the beginning of the next phase in the Cold War.

Let's break the Georgia-Russia Conflict down to understand it. We'll begin with the history of the land in dispute - South Ossetia.
